NEIGHBOURHOOD


Founded in the XII century from the Genoese family of the Dorias, it had called Castel Genovese; subsequently it was conquered by the King of Aragon. Only under the kingdom of the Savoia it purchased the today's name. The country rises around what it remains some ancient boundaries; to see the ancient cathedral Gothic of the '500. Stintino is one of the places more famous of Sardinia. Placed in the extreme northwest of the island, it offers the advantage to be isolated from noisy cities. The sea of Stintino leans out on the Gulf of the Asinara, dominated by the homonym island and, that is lately possible to visit only. Situated among Saint Teresa of Gallura and Castelsardo, Costa Paradiso is characterized by redheads bluffs carved by the wind, surrounded by a luxuriant Mediterranean stain, from a crystalline sea, deep ravines, some of which attainable only with boats. Beaches: the coast is constituted above all by rocks and bluffs, with some small beach of end sand. Of incomparable beauty the beach of Li Cossi (photo), attainable with a brief walk. Compote of seven islands more varied islets, the archipelago of the Maddalena is dearly connected with the the Port of Palau. The island of the Maddalena, the greatest and the most populated of the archipelago, thanks to the beauty and the variety of its coasts is famous in the whole Mediterranean. Santa Teresa is situated on a promontory in the extremity north of Sardinia, leaned out on the Bocche di Bonifacio. The small sea center develops him on two bluffs. Santa Teresa is situated in an ideal geographical position: with a raft the archipelago of the Maddalena can be reached,Coast Smeralda by car or the suggestive inside Gallurese, and Corsica by ferry. Placed in the part north of Sardinia, between Castelsardo and Costa Paradiso, in central position, it is an excellent point of departure for excursions to the Maddalena, Stintino, Alghero. Alghero, of presumed Arabic origin, it perhaps owes its name to the abundant algas that the sea tides deposit on the coast conquered by the Genoese Dorias. It became a city strengthened in 1102. In 1354 the sovereigns of Aragon, after having it busy, they chased Sardinians and liguri from the city, installing a colony of Catalans: the local dialect, still in use, is in fact the Catalan. Alghero has been the first Sardinian place where the tourism is developed: since the last postwar period a greater number of visitors has discovered the charm of the monuments, of the history, of the nature of this zone. The historical center preserves the charm of the ancient Spanish city: the picturesque lanes have always crowded of tourists in all the seasons, for the traditional shopping in the shops of Sardinian craftsmanship. Besides the products of the other zones it is characteristic of Alghero the craftsmanship of the coral. Notable monuments are the cathedral of S. Maria, built on the ancient mosque that the Arabic pirates, probable founders of the city, erected around the year thousand: the Gothic bell tower constitutes the architectural aspect of it more main point; there is then the Romanesque-Gothic church of S. Francesco, with the beautiful cloister of the '300. In the panoramic waterfront, besides, various towers and the intact rests of the boundaries are risen. Along the splendid coast north of the city doesn't miss in Europe: the vast inlet of Porto Conte (what it is reached grazing the beautiful complex nuragich of Palmavera) called by the Romans Porthus Nimpharum for its beauty and close to west from the sour cliffs of Capo Caccia, tall over 200 mt. to peak on the sea. In this zone the sea and the waters rain have produced in million of years of it extraordinary phenomenons of erosion, among which the island Foradada (what it means note «perforated») and the famous ones, unforgettable Caves of Neptune, that can be reached by the sea taking the barges in departure from Alghero, from earth through Escala Cabirol, dug in the rocky wall, with sights marvelous pannings of the alert bluff. Of great interest the archaeological destination toward the prehistoric Necropolis of Anghelu Ruju, formed besides by a big number of graves dug in a rocky plate.
